FIFA World Cup 2026 in Los Angeles — The Complete SoFi Stadium Guide

SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California is one of the marquee venues of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Opened in 2020 as the most expensive stadium ever built at $5.5 billion, SoFi features a translucent ETFE canopy roof, the iconic 70,000-square-foot Oculus video board, and 70,240 seats that can be configured for international football. It has already hosted Super Bowl LVI, the College Football Playoff Championship, WrestleMania, and Taylor Swift's Eras Tour — proving it can handle the world's biggest events. For the World Cup, SoFi is expected to host group stage matches and potentially knockout rounds, making Los Angeles one of the most important stops on the 2026 tournament circuit.

Getting to SoFi is the biggest challenge visitors face. The I-405 near the stadium is the most congested highway in America, and match days amplify this significantly. Stadium parking lots take 60–90 minutes to exit after a match. Rideshare surge pricing after events hits 3–5x normal fares with 30–60 minute waits. LA's Metro system is expanding but still limited near SoFi — the C Line gets you to Downtown Inglewood but leaves a 1-mile walk to the venue.

If you're also attending matches at MetLife Stadium in New York — including the World Cup Final on July 19, 2026 — we provide complete ground transportation for the NYC leg. Airport transfers from JFK, LaGuardia, Newark, and Teterboro. Hotel-to-stadium round trips with no surge pricing. Multi-day packages for groups attending multiple matches across the northeast.

Venue

SoFi Stadium — Everything You Need to Know

The most advanced stadium in the world. What makes it special — and what to watch out for on match day.

Stadium specs

70,240 seats expandable to 100,000+ for concerts and special configurations. 3.1 million square feet — the largest NFL stadium in the country. Fixed ETFE canopy roof provides shade but is NOT fully enclosed, so there is no air conditioning inside the venue. The 70,000-square-foot Oculus video board is the largest in any stadium worldwide. Part of the 298-acre Hollywood Park development with shops, restaurants, a casino, and a hotel. Address: 1001 Stadium Drive, Inglewood, CA 90301.

Past mega-events

Super Bowl LVI in 2022 drew the Rams vs Bengals and proved the venue's ability to handle massive security and global broadcasts. The College Football Playoff National Championship in 2023 followed. WrestleMania 39 took over the complex for two nights. Taylor Swift's Eras Tour played six consecutive sold-out shows, and Beyonce's Renaissance Tour packed the house as well. FIFA has inspected and formally approved SoFi — pitch dimensions, locker rooms, broadcast facilities, and hospitality all meet World Cup requirements.

The ETFE canopy

The same material used for the Beijing Olympics Water Cube — ethylene tetrafluoroethylene lets in natural light while blocking rain and direct sun. It is NOT a closed roof. Air circulates freely through the open sides, so in June and July interior temperatures will match outdoor conditions at 75–85°F. The canopy does create natural airflow so the stadium won't feel stagnant even on warmer days. Bring water and sunscreen for day matches — shade exists but heat is real.

Entrance gates

Eight main entry gates are spaced around the perimeter, each with dedicated security screening that is airport-level for FIFA events. Gates typically open 2–3 hours before kickoff to allow fans to explore the concourses and concession areas. VIP and hospitality entrances are located on the west side. Your car service should drop you at the gate closest to your section to minimize walking. On match days, expect 15–30 minutes from gate to seat during peak entry.

Accessibility

Fully ADA compliant with wheelchair-accessible seating on all levels of the stadium. Elevators service all upper decks and suites. Accessible restrooms are available on every level, and companion seating is guaranteed adjacent to wheelchair positions. Sensory rooms are available for guests with sensory sensitivities or autism. Assisted listening devices can be obtained at Guest Services desks. Service animals are permitted throughout the venue.

What you can't bring

Clear bag policy enforced strictly: 12"x6"x12" maximum for clear bags, or a small clutch purse 4.5"x6.5". No regular backpacks, no exceptions. No outside food or beverages. No professional cameras with detachable lenses. No drones, umbrellas, laser pointers, or weapons of any kind. FIFA may add additional restrictions for World Cup matches — vuvuzelas, political banners, and oversized flags may be prohibited at the tournament level.

Matches

World Cup Matches at SoFi Stadium

What to expect for group stage matches and potential knockout rounds at SoFi.

Group stage dates

SoFi Stadium is expected to host 5–6 group stage matches between June 11 and June 28, 2026. The exact schedule and team assignments will be announced by FIFA after the final draw. Matches will be spread across the group stage windows to maximize attendance and broadcast value. Check FIFA.com for confirmed dates once the draw is complete.

Knockout round potential

SoFi is among the venues being considered for Round of 32, Round of 16, and potentially quarterfinal matches. As the most expensive and advanced stadium in the tournament, it is likely to receive premium fixtures. The World Cup Final is at MetLife Stadium in New York on July 19, 2026.

Kickoff times

Expect kickoff times of 1 PM, 4 PM, and 7 PM Pacific Time for group stage matches. Evening matches at 7 PM will be the most comfortable temperature-wise with highs dropping to the mid-60s after sunset. Afternoon matches at 1 PM will be warmest — bring extra water and sunscreen for those fixtures.

Capacity configuration

SoFi holds 70,240 for football configuration with the pitch at the center of the bowl. Sightlines are excellent from every section due to the steep rake of the upper decks. The Oculus video board ensures replays and stats are visible from anywhere. Expect full capacity for every World Cup match.

Match day atmosphere

FIFA Fan Festivals will be set up at Hollywood Park and potentially other locations around LA. Expect drumming, chanting, flags, and face paint from supporters of nations worldwide. LA's massive Latin American community means matches involving Mexico, Argentina, Colombia, and Brazil will have an especially electric atmosphere.

Ticket tiers

FIFA offers Category 1 (sideline, lower bowl), Category 2 (corners and upper sideline), Category 3 (upper deck behind goals), and Category 4 (limited, behind goals upper). Hospitality packages include lounge access, food, and beverages. Group stage face value ranges from $50 to $300. Purchase only through FIFA.com or verified resale platforms.

Airports

Los Angeles Airports

Four airports serve LA. LAX is closest to SoFi — just 3 miles away. Each has trade-offs worth understanding.

LAX
Los Angeles International

  • 30 min from SoFi off-peak, 45–60 min in traffic
  • No international flights — domestic only
  • Much faster security — 15 min curb-to-gate typical
  • Best if your airline flies here — saves 1+ hour vs LAX

Where to stay

Best Neighborhoods for World Cup Visitors

Where you stay in LA shapes your entire trip. Choose based on vibe, budget, and commute tolerance.

Santa Monica

Beach, boardwalk, and the iconic Third Street Promenade shopping district. 20–35 min to SoFi off-peak, but allow 45–70 min on match days via the 10 Freeway. Hotels $250–600/night during tournament season. Best for the quintessential California beach experience — walk to the pier at sunset, bike the Marvin Braude strand to Venice, and dine on Ocean Avenue overlooking the Pacific. Montana Avenue has boutique shopping and upscale cafes.

Beverly Hills

The Beverly Wilshire, Peninsula, and Waldorf Astoria anchor LA's most luxurious hotel strip. Rodeo Drive is two blocks from most properties. 15–25 min to SoFi off-peak, 35–55 min on match days via the 405. Hotels $400–1,200/night. Best for VIPs, corporate hospitality, and anyone who values premium service. Walkable restaurants on Canon Drive and Little Santa Monica Boulevard provide excellent pre-match dining options.

Downtown LA

The NoMad, Proper Hotel, and Hoxton anchor DTLA's growing hotel scene. You are walking distance to the Arts District, Little Tokyo, Grand Central Market, and the Broad museum. 25–40 min to SoFi via the 110 and 105 freeways. Hotels $180–500/night. Best for nightlife, culture, and food — DTLA has transformed into LA's most dynamic neighborhood with rooftop bars, galleries, and late-night dining. Metro hub connects you to Hollywood and beyond.

Hollywood / WeHo

The Walk of Fame, Sunset Strip, and world-famous rooftop bars define this zone. 25–40 min to SoFi via the 405 or 110 freeways, but match day traffic can push this to 50–70 min. Hotels $200–600/night. Best for entertainment and nightlife — clubs, comedy shows, live music every night. West Hollywood is the LGBTQ+ hub with excellent dining on Santa Monica Blvd and Melrose. The Chateau Marmont and Sunset Tower are celebrity-spotting institutions.

Inglewood / Near SoFi

Walking distance to the stadium means zero traffic stress. Limited hotel inventory so book months ahead. The SoFi Hotel at Hollywood Park is opening as part of the development. Current options run $150–350/night. Best for proximity over nightlife — you skip all traffic and can walk back to your room after the final whistle. The neighborhood is undergoing rapid development with new restaurants and bars popping up around the stadium complex.

Near LAX

Airport hotels along Century Boulevard and Sepulveda are 10–15 min from SoFi. Hotels $120–280/night. Best for late arrivals, early departures, and budget-conscious travelers. No real neighborhood vibe but the price is right and the stadium is close. Uber to Santa Monica (20 min) or DTLA (25 min) for restaurants and nightlife when you are not at matches.

Koreatown

LA's most vibrant food neighborhood is packed with Korean BBQ, karaoke bars, spas, and late-night restaurants open until 2 AM. 20 min to SoFi off-peak. Hotels $120–250/night — some of the best value in central LA. Best for foodies and nightlife seekers who want a more authentic LA experience. The Line Hotel and Koreatown boutique stays put you within walking distance of dozens of world-class restaurants.

Manhattan Beach / El Segundo

Upscale beach town just 10–15 min from SoFi. Quieter than Santa Monica, family-friendly, with excellent seafood restaurants along Manhattan Beach Boulevard. Hotels $200–450/night. The Shade Hotel is the standout property. Best for families and travelers who want beach proximity without the Santa Monica crowds. El Segundo has craft breweries and a growing restaurant scene just minutes from the stadium.

Weather

LA Weather During the World Cup

Dry, sunny, warm. Near-perfect conditions — with caveats for the unprepared.

Temperature

Coastal areas like Santa Monica run 65–78°F. Inland locations including Inglewood where SoFi sits run 72–85°F. Downtown LA can push 70–88°F on warm days. The phenomenon known as June Gloom brings a marine layer that keeps mornings cloudy near the coast — it typically burns off by noon. Inland is always warmer than the coast by 5–10 degrees.

Sun & UV

Expect 14+ hours of daylight during tournament matches. UV index reaches 9–11 which is classified as very high. SPF 50+ is essential even under the SoFi canopy because reflected light still causes burns. Sunglasses and a hat are mandatory for day matches. Visitors from cloudier northern European or UK climates are especially vulnerable to sunburn that sneaks up fast.

Hydration

Low humidity of 30–40% means you dehydrate without realizing it. Drink water constantly throughout the day and at the stadium. SoFi has water refill stations on every concourse level. Dry heat feels comfortable but is deceiving — alcohol consumption at matches accelerates dehydration significantly. Start hydrating the morning before a match.

Rain

Essentially zero. Los Angeles receives less than 0.1 inches of rain in June and July combined across a typical year. You do not need an umbrella or rain jacket. This makes LA the driest host city in the entire tournament. The only moisture you might encounter is morning marine fog near the coast.

Evening matches

Temperatures drop to 62–68°F after sunset which makes evening kickoffs at 7–9 PM Pacific the most comfortable time to watch football. Bring a light layer — the marine layer can cool things down quickly after dark, especially if you are sitting in an upper deck with more wind exposure. A light hoodie or jacket is all you need.

What to wear

Light clothing, shorts, and your team jersey for day matches. Sunscreen, sunglasses, and a cap are non-negotiable. Comfortable walking shoes because you will cover 0.5–1 mile from your drop-off point to your seat. A light hoodie for evening matches. No rain gear needed whatsoever. Dress in layers so you can adapt as the temperature shifts between afternoon and evening.

Soccer in LA

LA's Football Culture

One of the biggest soccer markets in the US — and growing fast with two passionate MLS clubs.

LAFC — the new force

Banc of California Stadium in Exposition Park, DTLA. Founded 2018 and already an MLS Cup champion in 2022. The 3252 supporters section is a standing, singing wall of noise with tifo displays rivaling European ultras. Carlos Vela, Giorgio Chiellini, and Hugo Lloris have all worn the black and gold. Tickets run $35–200. The stadium is just 15 minutes from SoFi and worth visiting for the atmosphere alone.

LA Galaxy — the originals

Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson is just 10 minutes from SoFi Stadium. Founded in 1996, the Galaxy are five-time MLS Cup champions and the club that brought David Beckham to America. Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Giovani dos Santos, and Chicharito followed. The family-friendly atmosphere makes it a great pre-World Cup outing. Tickets start at $25 and top out around $150 for premium seats.

The Mexican connection

LA has the largest Mexican and Central American population in the United States. Liga MX is massive here — El Clasico between Club America and Chivas has sold out SoFi and the Rose Bowl multiple times. Many World Cup fans in LA will support Mexico, Argentina, Colombia, and El Salvador. Expect massive street culture, outdoor viewing parties, and spontaneous celebrations throughout East LA, Koreatown, and Inglewood.

1994 World Cup legacy

LA hosted World Cup matches in 1994 at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, including the iconic Final between Brazil and Italy decided on penalties. That tournament set attendance records that still stand and transformed soccer in America. The 2026 World Cup completes the circle, bringing the tournament back to a city that played a pivotal role in growing the sport in the US.

Shopping

Shopping Guide

From Rodeo Drive luxury to vintage streetwear — LA has it all.

Luxury — Rodeo Drive

Two blocks of the world's most famous luxury brands: Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Dior, Prada, Hermès. The Beverly Wilshire anchors the south end. Window shopping is free and the people-watching is half the entertainment. Most stores are open 10 AM–6 PM. Beverly Hills is 15–25 min from SoFi.

Streetwear & Sneakers

Fairfax Avenue between Melrose and Beverly is LA's streetwear row — Supreme, The Hundreds, UNDFTD. Round Two for vintage and resale heat. Flight Club for rare sneakers. Melrose Avenue has dozens of vintage shops. The Rose Bowl Flea Market (second Sunday monthly) is a treasure hunt for vintage finds.

FIFA & Soccer Souvenirs

Official FIFA stores will open at SoFi and around Hollywood Park during the tournament. Expect jerseys ($90–160), scarves, hats, pins, and commemorative items. Team-specific merchandise will be available near the venue. Third-party vendors will line the streets near the stadium on match days with unofficial gear at lower prices.

Markets & Vintage

Grand Central Market downtown for food and artisan goods. The Original Farmers Market at 3rd and Fairfax since 1934. Melrose Trading Post (Sunday, Fairfax High School) for vintage clothing. Santa Monica Farmers Market (Wednesday and Saturday) for the best produce in the city.

Malls

The Grove (Fairfax, outdoor mall with trolley, adjacent to Farmers Market). Westfield Century City (open-air, near Beverly Hills). Santa Monica Place (3rd Street Promenade). Beverly Center (WeHo). South Coast Plaza in Costa Mesa (45 min) is the luxury mega-mall of Southern California.

Outlets

Citadel Outlets in Commerce (20 min from SoFi) — the closest outlet mall to downtown. Camarillo Premium Outlets (45 min north on 101). Desert Hills Premium Outlets near Palm Springs (2 hours) is the most comprehensive. Prices run 30–70% off retail for major brands.

Practical

Safety & Practical Tips

Essential information to make your LA World Cup experience smooth and safe.

Safety

Generally safe in tourist areas including Santa Monica, Beverly Hills, WeHo, Hollywood, and Westside neighborhoods. Stay aware in Downtown LA after dark, particularly near the Skid Row area east of Main Street. Use licensed car services especially late at night. Keep valuables secure in crowds — petty theft and phone snatching can happen at large events.

Phone & WiFi

Get a US SIM or eSIM if you are traveling internationally — T-Mobile and AT&T have the best LA coverage. Free WiFi is available at most hotels, cafes, and malls throughout the city. Stadium WiFi is available but extremely slow with 70,000 users connected. Download offline maps before heading to the match because cell service gets spotty at capacity events.

Tipping culture

Restaurants expect 18–20% on the pre-tax total. Bars: $1–2 per drink minimum. Car service: gratuity is optional and can be added at checkout. Hotels: $2–5 per night for housekeeping. Valet: $3–5 when they return your car. Tipping is not optional in the US — service workers depend on it for their livelihood.

Getting around daily

You realistically need a car or car service for most things in LA. The Metro is expanding but still limited for most visitor destinations. Uber and Lyft work fine for daily use but surge during events. Street parking is $1–4/hour with strict enforcement. Traffic peaks 7–10 AM and 3–7 PM on weekdays. Weekends are lighter but still very real.

Health & medical

No vaccinations required for the US. Tap water is safe everywhere. CVS and Walgreens pharmacies are on nearly every major block. Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and UCLA Medical Center are world-class hospitals. Bring sunscreen — the UV is stronger than most visitors expect. Stay hydrated. Check the AQI app for occasional smog or wildfire haze days.

International visitors

ESTA required for Visa Waiver Program countries — apply before departure. Others need a B-1/B-2 tourist visa. LAX customs processing takes 30–90 minutes for non-US citizens. Global Entry speeds this to under 5 minutes. The US uses USD — credit cards are accepted everywhere. Sales tax is 9.5% in LA County and is not included in listed prices.

Power & adapters

The US uses Type A/B plugs with 120V/60Hz electricity. If you are coming from Europe, UK, Australia, or Asia, you will need an adapter. Most hotel rooms have USB charging ports built into nightstands now. Bring a portable battery pack — your phone will drain fast on match days between maps, photos, and social media.

Language

English and Spanish are both widely spoken throughout Los Angeles. Many neighborhoods are primarily Spanish-speaking including East LA, Boyle Heights, and parts of Inglewood. Korean is widely spoken in Koreatown. Mandarin and Cantonese dominate the San Gabriel Valley. You will find multilingual staff at most hotels and tourist-facing businesses.

Pack smart

What to Pack for the World Cup in LA

LA's dry sunny weather and SoFi's clear bag policy shape your packing list.

Sun protection

SPF 50+ sunscreen and reapply every 2 hours — even under the SoFi canopy. Polarized sunglasses are essential. Wide-brim hat or baseball cap for day matches. Lip balm with SPF to prevent chapped and burned lips. UV in LA during June and July is brutal — even locals burn during outdoor events.

Footwear

Comfortable walking shoes because you will cover 2–5 miles on match days between transit, stadium walks, and exploring. Flip-flops or sandals for the beach. Clean sneakers work everywhere in LA except the most upscale restaurants. Break in new shoes before the trip.

Clear bag

SoFi enforces a strict clear bag policy — maximum 12x6x12 inches. Buy one before you travel so you are prepared. Regular backpacks and purses will be turned away at the gate with no exceptions. A small clutch 4.5x6.5 inches is the only non-clear option allowed inside.

Tech essentials

Portable charger because your phone will die fast on match days between maps, photos, social media, and tickets. US adapter (Type A/B, 120V) if traveling internationally. eSIM or prepaid SIM for data. Noise-canceling headphones for the 5-hour flight from the East Coast.

Clothing layers

Light breathable clothing for daytime — shorts, t-shirts, and your team jersey. A light hoodie or jacket for evening matches when temperatures drop to the low 60s. No rain gear needed at all. Pack versatile pieces that work for both the stadium and restaurant dinners afterward.

Health items

Any prescription medications you take regularly. Over-the-counter pain relievers for headaches. Antacid if you plan to eat adventurously. Electrolyte packets for hydration — the dry heat depletes you faster than you realize. Band-aids for blisters from walking. Hand sanitizer for crowded venue use.

Instagram

Best Photo Spots in LA

Eight iconic locations for your World Cup trip photos and social media content.

Griffith Observatory

The classic LA skyline panorama with the Hollywood Sign visible to the right. Free entry to the building and observation deck. Best at golden hour when the city glows orange. Parking is extremely limited — take a car service or hike 1 mile from the Greek Theatre parking lot.

Hollywood Sign

Best viewed from Griffith Observatory, Lake Hollywood Park, or the Hollywood and Highland complex. For the closest view, hike the Brush Canyon Trail which is 3 miles round trip. Do not try to reach the sign itself — it is fenced, monitored, and trespassing is illegal with serious fines.

Santa Monica Pier

The Pacific Wheel ferris wheel, the Route 66 end sign, and sunset over the ocean make this one of the most photographed spots in California. Best at golden hour or after dark when the pier lights up. Walk south along the beach for Muscle Beach and the Venice canals.

LACMA Urban Light

Chris Burden's installation of 202 restored vintage street lamps is the single most Instagrammed spot in Los Angeles. Best at dusk or after dark when the lamps glow. Free to visit. Located on Wilshire Boulevard in the Miracle Mile neighborhood. Arrive early on weekends to avoid crowds.

Venice Boardwalk

Street art, performers, the Venice sign, and the famous skate park. Walk to Abbot Kinney Boulevard for curated murals. The Venice Canals neighborhood has charming bridges and reflections perfect for photography. Visit in the morning or at golden hour for the best light and smaller crowds.

DTLA Arts District

Street murals cover every wall in this creative neighborhood. The 4th Street Bridge provides a dramatic skyline backdrop. Angel's Flight funicular is the shortest railway in the world. The Bradbury Building interior is a Victorian architectural gem. Row DTLA for industrial-chic backdrops.

El Matador Beach

Dramatic sea stacks and cliff formations make this Malibu beach the most photogenic in LA. Access via a steep staircase from the parking lot. Best at sunset when light streams between the rock formations. Arrive 2 hours before sunset for parking — the lot is small and fills fast.

SoFi Stadium exterior

The stadium itself is incredibly photogenic — the swooping ETFE canopy and the illuminated exterior at night create stunning images. The Hollywood Park campus provides wide angles. On match days, photograph the crowds, flags, and atmosphere outside the gates. The Oculus video board is visible from certain exterior angles.

Families

Family-Friendly LA

Traveling with kids? LA has world-class family activities between matches.

Theme parks

Disneyland Resort in Anaheim is 45 min south with two parks. Universal Studios Hollywood is 30 min north with the Wizarding World of Harry Potter and Super Nintendo World. LEGOLAND in Carlsbad is 1.5 hours south. Knott's Berry Farm is 45 min in Buena Park. Six Flags Magic Mountain is 45 min north. Book all tickets online in advance for discounts.

Aquarium & zoo

Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach is 25 min from SoFi with sharks, penguins, and touch tanks. LA Zoo in Griffith Park has over 1,400 animals. California Science Center is free and home to Space Shuttle Endeavour. Natural History Museum has dinosaur exhibits. All are air-conditioned — perfect mid-day escapes from the heat.

Beach day

Santa Monica State Beach has lifeguards, a playground near the pier, and gentle waves for kids. Zuma Beach in Malibu is wide and less crowded. Manhattan Beach is family-friendly with excellent volleyball courts. Leo Carrillo has tide pools and sea caves to explore. Ocean water is cool at 60–65°F — consider wetsuits for smaller children.

Museums for kids

Kidspace Children's Museum in Pasadena has hands-on exhibits and outdoor play areas. The California Science Center has interactive science displays and an IMAX theater. The Zimmer Children's Museum in mid-city focuses on creative play. The Griffith Observatory planetarium shows are engaging for ages 5 and up.

Outdoor adventures

Griffith Park offers easy hiking trails, the merry-go-round, pony rides, and the LA Zoo all in one enormous park. Runyon Canyon is a moderate hike with skyline views that older kids enjoy. Bike the strand from Santa Monica to Manhattan Beach — flat, paved, and scenic. Descanso Gardens in La Canada for peaceful garden walks.

Car seats for NYC leg

If your family is also attending World Cup matches at MetLife Stadium in New York, we provide car seats for $25 per seat for all airport transfers and stadium runs. Rear-facing, forward-facing, and booster seats available. Specify your children's ages when booking. For the LA leg, most rental car companies offer car seats for an additional daily fee.

Transit

Public Transit Deep Dive

LA's Metro is expanding but still limited. Here is what actually works for World Cup visitors.

Metro Rail

Six lines cover key corridors. The C Line (Green) is closest to SoFi — Downtown Inglewood station is about 1 mile from the stadium. The B Line (Red) connects Hollywood to DTLA. The E Line (Expo) runs from Santa Monica to DTLA. The D Line (Purple) extension reaches Koreatown. Fares are $1.75 per ride. Buy a TAP card at any station.

Metro Bus

LA Metro buses cover the entire county with over 170 routes. Real-time tracking via the Transit app works well. The Metro Rapid buses on major corridors like Wilshire and Vermont are faster with limited stops. Regular fare is $1.75. On match days, expect dedicated shuttle buses between transit hubs and SoFi Stadium.

Match day shuttles

FIFA and Metro will likely operate dedicated shuttle services from key points to SoFi on match days. In past events, shuttles ran from Downtown Inglewood, LAX area hotels, and DTLA. Expect $5–15 round trip. These are often the most stress-free option for fans without a car service. Details will be confirmed closer to the tournament.

Bikes & scooters

Metro Bike Share has stations across DTLA, Hollywood, and the Westside. Bird and Lime scooters are everywhere. The beach strand from Santa Monica to Redondo Beach is a flat, paved, car-free bike path. Not practical for getting to SoFi but excellent for exploring neighborhoods between matches. Helmet recommended but not legally required for adults.

History

Los Angeles — Historical Context

Understanding LA's history enriches your World Cup visit.

From pueblo to megacity

Los Angeles was founded in 1781 as a Spanish pueblo and grew slowly until the railroads arrived in the 1880s. The discovery of oil, the rise of Hollywood in the 1910s, and World War II aerospace manufacturing transformed it into the sprawling megacity it is today. The car-centric freeway system was built in the 1940s–60s and defines the city's layout and transportation challenges that visitors still navigate.

Olympic and sporting legacy

LA hosted the Summer Olympics in 1932 and 1984, and will host again in 2028 — just two years after the World Cup. The 1994 World Cup Final at the Rose Bowl remains one of the most watched sporting events in history. The Coliseum, Rose Bowl, SoFi Stadium, and new venues being built for 2028 make LA one of the most important sporting cities on earth.

Cultural capital

Hollywood made LA the entertainment capital of the world, but the city's cultural depth goes far beyond movies. LA is home to world-class museums (Getty, LACMA, The Broad), a thriving music scene from punk to hip-hop to K-pop, and the most diverse food scene in America. The city's multicultural identity — with large Mexican, Korean, Armenian, Ethiopian, Persian, and Filipino communities — makes it unlike any other American city.

Inglewood renaissance

SoFi Stadium has catalyzed an economic renaissance in Inglewood. Once a working-class suburb, the city now hosts the Rams, Chargers, Clippers (Intuit Dome), and the Hollywood Park entertainment complex. The World Cup and 2028 Olympics will bring further investment. Local businesses are expanding, new restaurants are opening, and property values have surged — the neighborhood around SoFi is transforming rapidly.

Accessibility

Accessibility Guide

SoFi Stadium and Los Angeles are well-equipped for visitors with disabilities and mobility needs.

Stadium accessibility

SoFi Stadium is fully ADA compliant with wheelchair-accessible seating throughout all levels. Elevators serve every deck. Accessible restrooms on all concourse levels. Companion seating is guaranteed. Sensory rooms available for guests with autism or sensory sensitivities. Assisted listening devices at Guest Services. Service animals welcome.

Accessible transport

ADA-accessible parking is available at SoFi with advance reservation recommended. Metro trains and buses are wheelchair accessible. Uber and Lyft offer WAV (wheelchair-accessible vehicle) options. Our car service fleet includes ADA-accessible vehicles — specify your needs when booking for the NYC leg.

Accessible hotels

All major hotel chains in LA are ADA compliant with accessible rooms featuring roll-in showers, grab bars, visual fire alarms, and wider doorways. Request accessible rooms at booking — they sell out fast during major events. Properties near SoFi tend to be newer construction with better accessibility features.

City accessibility

Sidewalks in tourist areas are generally well-maintained with curb cuts. Beach wheelchairs are available free at Santa Monica and other beaches — call ahead to reserve. Griffith Observatory and most museums are fully accessible. The Hollywood Walk of Fame is flat and paved. Some older neighborhoods have uneven sidewalks.

Emergency

Emergency Information

Essential contacts and locations for emergencies during your LA visit.

Hospitals

Cedars-Sinai Medical Center (8700 Beverly Blvd, 20 min from SoFi) — one of the best hospitals in the nation. UCLA Medical Center (Westwood, 25 min). Centinela Hospital (Inglewood, 5 min from SoFi) — closest emergency room. Daniel Freeman Memorial Hospital in Inglewood is also nearby. For emergencies call 911.

Police

Emergency: 911 for all emergencies including police, fire, and ambulance. Non-emergency LAPD: (877) 275-5273. Inglewood Police (SoFi area): (310) 412-5211. LAPD has a dedicated tourist safety program. FIFA will deploy additional security around SoFi and fan zones during the tournament.

Consulates & embassies

Los Angeles has consulates for virtually every country in the world — more than any US city except New York and Washington DC. Mexican Consulate: 2401 W 6th St. British Consulate: 2029 Century Park East. German Consulate: 6222 Wilshire Blvd. Brazilian Consulate: 8484 Wilshire Blvd. Search your country's consulate before traveling.

Local lingo

LA Slang & Phrases

Speak like a local — or at least understand what they are saying.

The + number = freeway

Angelenos always say THE before a freeway number: 'Take the 405 to the 10.' Never just '405' or 'I-405.' This is the single biggest linguistic giveaway that someone is not from LA. Master this and you will blend in instantly. The 405, the 10, the 101, the 110 — always with the definite article.

SigAlert

A SigAlert means a major traffic incident that closes one or more lanes for 30+ minutes. You will hear this on LA radio and see it in traffic apps. If a SigAlert is issued on the 405 near SoFi on match day, add an extra 30–60 minutes to your travel time. Local radio station KNX 1070 AM reports SigAlerts continuously.

The Westside / The Valley

The Westside refers to everything from Beverly Hills to the ocean — Santa Monica, Venice, Brentwood, West LA. The Valley is the San Fernando Valley north of the Hollywood Hills — Burbank, Studio City, Sherman Oaks. 'Going over the hill' means crossing from the Valley to the basin or vice versa via Cahuenga, Laurel Canyon, or Coldwater Canyon passes.

June Gloom / May Gray

The marine layer that keeps coastal LA overcast in the mornings during May and June. Locals call it June Gloom (or May Gray in May). It typically burns off by noon revealing sunny skies. Inland areas like Inglewood and DTLA are often clear while the coast is still foggy. Do not judge LA weather by your 8 AM coastal view.

FAQ

LA World Cup — Frequently Asked Questions

01

Where is SoFi Stadium?

1001 Stadium Drive, Inglewood, CA 90301. 3 miles from LAX, 12 miles from Downtown LA. Part of the 298-acre Hollywood Park entertainment complex with shops, restaurants, and a casino.

02

How far is LAX to SoFi?

3 miles or about 15 minutes by car off-peak. On match day allow 30–45 minutes due to heavy traffic. Metro C Line to Downtown Inglewood station plus a 1-mile walk is an alternative. Pre-booked car service is the fastest and most reliable option.

03

Does SoFi have air conditioning?

No. The ETFE canopy provides shade but it is an open-air design with no air conditioning. Interior temperatures match outdoor conditions at 75–85°F in June and July. There is good airflow so it will not feel stagnant. Bring water and sunscreen.

04

Is parking available at SoFi?

Yes — over 9,000 parking spots are available at $60–100 per match. Exiting the lot takes 60–90 minutes after the final whistle. Tailgating is typically allowed in designated areas. A car service avoids the parking lot entirely and picks you up curbside.

05

What is the clear bag policy?

Clear bags maximum 12x6x12 inches, or a small clutch purse 4.5x6.5 inches. No regular backpacks, no exceptions. FIFA may add additional restrictions for World Cup matches. Check FIFA.com before you attend.

06

Is Uber expensive after SoFi events?

Yes. Surge pricing of 3–5x normal rates is common after major SoFi events with 30–60 minute waits. The rideshare pickup lot is a 10–15 minute walk from the stadium. Pre-booked car service avoids surge pricing and wait times entirely.

07

Best restaurants near SoFi?

Hollywood Park around the stadium has restaurants opening. Within 15 minutes: Randy's Donuts, Pann's Restaurant, Three Weavers Brewing. Best food neighborhoods: Koreatown (20 min), Grand Central Market (25 min), Santa Monica (25 min), Arts District (30 min).

08

What is the weather like?

70–85°F with no rain and low humidity. Coastal areas are cooler, inland areas warmer. UV index is high at 9–11 so sunscreen is essential. Evenings cool to 62–68°F — bring a light layer for night matches.

09

Are there MLS games during the World Cup?

MLS typically pauses during the World Cup window. LAFC plays at Banc of California Stadium in DTLA and LA Galaxy plays at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson. Both may have matches before or after the tournament. Both stadiums are within 15 min of SoFi.

10

What to do between matches?

Venice Beach, Griffith Observatory, Hollywood Sign, Getty Museum, Universal Studios, Korean BBQ in Koreatown, surfing lessons, Malibu day trip, San Diego day trip, shopping on Rodeo Drive, studio tours at Warner Bros or Universal.

11

How to reach other host cities?

San Francisco: 1.5 hr flight. Houston: 3.5 hrs. Dallas: 3 hrs. Seattle: 2.5 hrs. Mexico City: 4 hrs. Miami: 5 hrs. Atlanta: 4 hrs. NYC for the Final: 5.5 hrs. Multiple daily flights from LAX to all host cities.

12

Is LA safe for visitors?

Tourist areas are safe and well-policed including Santa Monica, Beverly Hills, WeHo, and Hollywood. Be aware of your surroundings downtown at night particularly near Skid Row. Use licensed transport services. Secure valuables at large events. Heavy security will be deployed during the tournament.

13

Do I need a car in LA?

For most activities beyond the stadium, yes. Metro is limited for visitor destinations. Uber and Lyft work for daily use but surge at events. Renting a car works if you are comfortable with freeways and traffic. Car service for match days plus Uber for daily exploring is the sweet spot.

14

Best airport for SoFi?

LAX is closest at 3 miles. Burbank is 30 min with much faster security if your airline flies there. Long Beach is 25 min and great for JetBlue travelers. Ontario is 50 min and only makes sense if staying in the Inland Empire.

15

Can I do LA and NYC World Cup matches?

Absolutely. LAX to JFK or Newark is 5.5 hours with multiple daily flights on every major carrier. For the MetLife Stadium Final on July 19, we handle all NYC ground transportation including airport transfers and hotel-to-stadium service.

16

What is the best area to stay?

Santa Monica for the beach experience. Beverly Hills for luxury. DTLA for nightlife and food. Hollywood for entertainment. Inglewood for stadium proximity. Near LAX for budget. Koreatown for food lovers. Manhattan Beach for families.

17

How early should I arrive at SoFi?

Gates open 2–3 hours before kickoff. Arrive at least 2 hours early for FIFA-level security screening. If driving or using rideshare, add 30–60 minutes for traffic. Car services can drop you closer to gates and save 15–20 minutes of walking.

18

Is tap water safe in LA?

Yes, LA tap water is safe to drink and meets all EPA standards. You can fill reusable bottles at SoFi water stations. Bottled water is available everywhere but at stadium markup prices of $5–7.

19

What about the 2028 Olympics?

LA hosts the Summer Olympics in 2028 — two years after the World Cup. SoFi Stadium, the Coliseum, and other venues are all being upgraded. The city's infrastructure investments for the Olympics will benefit World Cup visitors in 2026.

20

Where can I watch matches I am not attending?

FIFA Fan Festivals will be set up around LA with big screens and entertainment. Sports bars throughout the city will show every match. Korean BBQ restaurants in Koreatown often have TVs and stay open late. Santa Monica and Venice beach bars are great for afternoon matches.
