FIFA World Cup 2026 in Dallas — The Complete AT&T Stadium Guide

AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas is one of the largest and most iconic venues of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Opened in 2009 at a cost of $1.3 billion, the stadium features a retractable roof, full air conditioning, and the world's largest column-free interior span. Standard capacity is 80,000 but it can expand beyond 100,000 for special events — making it one of the highest-capacity World Cup venues in the tournament. The centerpiece is the massive video board stretching from one 20-yard line to the other, weighing 600 tons.

AT&T Stadium sits in Arlington, midway between Dallas and Fort Worth — the heart of the DFW metroplex. There is no public transit to the stadium, so a car is essential. DFW Airport is 15 miles away and Dallas Love Field is 20 miles. The Texas heat in June and July is brutal at 95–105°F, but the retractable roof and AC make the interior a comfortable 72°F. Parking lots are massive with over 12,000 spaces, but exit times can exceed 60 minutes after capacity events.

If you're also attending matches at MetLife Stadium in New York — including the World Cup Final on July 19, 2026 — we provide complete ground transportation for the NYC leg. Airport transfers from JFK, LaGuardia, Newark, and Teterboro. Hotel-to-stadium round trips with no surge pricing.

Venue

AT&T Stadium — Everything You Need to Know

The largest enclosed stadium in the NFL and one of the most impressive World Cup venues.

Stadium specs

80,000 standard capacity expandable beyond 100,000 for major events. The world's largest column-free interior with a span of 275 feet. The video board is 160 feet wide and weighs 600 tons — largest of any stadium worldwide. Five levels of seating with 342 luxury suites. Address: 1 AT&T Way, Arlington, TX 76011. Part of the Arlington entertainment district alongside Globe Life Field and Texas Live!.

Past mega-events

Super Bowl XLV in 2011 drew over 103,000 fans — the largest Super Bowl attendance ever. The venue has hosted the Cotton Bowl, NCAA Final Four, College Football Playoff, and major boxing events. International soccer friendlies between Liga MX and European clubs regularly sell out. FIFA has inspected and approved all facilities for World Cup use.

Retractable roof & AC

The retractable roof opens and closes in about 12 minutes. For World Cup matches in June and July, expect the roof to be closed with full air conditioning maintaining 72°F inside. Dallas summer temperatures regularly exceed 100°F, so the climate-controlled environment is a massive advantage. The retractable end-zone doors can also open for airflow when weather permits.

Entrance gates

Multiple entry gates surround the stadium at each corner and midpoint. Gates open 2–3 hours before kickoff for World Cup matches. VIP and hospitality entrances are on the west side with dedicated security lanes. Security screening is airport-level for FIFA events — arrive early. The stadium concourse is wide and well-organized with clear signage.

Accessibility

Fully ADA compliant with wheelchair-accessible seating on all levels. Elevators and escalators to all upper decks. Accessible restrooms on every concourse level. Companion seating adjacent to wheelchair positions. Assisted listening devices and closed captioning available at Guest Services. Service animals permitted. Sensory-friendly spaces available.

What you can't bring

Clear bag policy: 12"x6"x12" clear bags only or small clutch 4.5"x6.5". No backpacks, no exceptions. No outside food or beverages. No professional cameras with detachable lenses. No umbrellas, drones, or weapons. FIFA may add additional World Cup restrictions including bans on vuvuzelas, political banners, and oversized flags.

Matches

World Cup Matches at AT&T Stadium

Dallas is expected to be one of the highest-profile World Cup venues with marquee fixtures.

Group stage dates

AT&T Stadium is expected to host 5–6 group stage matches between June 11 and June 28, 2026. The DFW metroplex's massive population and infrastructure make it a prime location for marquee group stage fixtures. Exact dates and team assignments will be confirmed after the FIFA draw.

Knockout round potential

With capacity exceeding 100,000, AT&T Stadium is among the top candidates for Round of 16, quarterfinal, and potentially semifinal matches. The retractable roof guarantees playable conditions regardless of weather. Dallas's central US location makes it accessible from both coasts.

Kickoff times

Expect kickoff times of 12 PM, 3 PM, and 6 PM Central Time for group stage matches. All times are comfortable inside the air-conditioned stadium. Evening matches allow fans to enjoy the Arlington entertainment district before and after the game.

Capacity configuration

Standard football configuration seats 80,000 with the pitch at center field. For the World Cup, temporary seating could push capacity above 100,000 as it did for Super Bowl XLV. The steep upper decks and massive video board ensure excellent sightlines from every section.

Match day atmosphere

Texas has a massive Latin American community and soccer passion runs deep in DFW. Matches involving Mexico, the US, and South American nations will create an electric atmosphere. FIFA Fan Festivals will be set up in Arlington and downtown Dallas. Expect tailgating in the parking lots — a Texas tradition.

Ticket tiers

FIFA ticket categories range from Category 1 (lower bowl sideline) to Category 4 (upper deck behind goals). Hospitality packages include suite access, catering, and premium seating. Group stage face value: $50–300. Knockout rounds: $150–600+. Purchase only through FIFA.com or verified resale platforms.

No transit reality: Arlington is the largest US city without public transit. There is no train or bus to AT&T Stadium. Shuttle services run for major events but sell out quickly. Rideshare supply struggles with 100,000-person events. A pre-booked car service eliminates all uncertainty.

Weather

Dallas Weather During the World Cup

Texas summer is no joke — but the roof and AC at AT&T Stadium keep you comfortable inside.

Temperature

June highs of 93–98°F. July highs of 96–105°F. Overnight lows only drop to 75–80°F. The heat is relentless from mid-June through August. Heat index with humidity can feel like 110°F+. Inside AT&T Stadium it is a comfortable 72°F with full air conditioning — the retractable roof will almost certainly be closed.

Sun & UV

14+ hours of daylight with intense Texas sun. UV index 10–11 (very high to extreme). Sunscreen is essential even for short outdoor periods — tailgating, walking from parking, or exploring between matches. A hat and sunglasses are mandatory outside. Dehydration comes fast.

Humidity & hydration

Humidity runs 50–70% which makes the heat feel much worse than dry desert heat. Drink water constantly when outside. Start hydrating the morning before any match or outdoor activity. Inside the stadium is dehumidified and comfortable. Carry a water bottle everywhere outside.

Thunderstorms

Texas is known for dramatic afternoon thunderstorms in summer. They roll in fast with lightning, heavy rain, and occasionally hail. Storms typically pass within 30–60 minutes. The retractable roof means zero weather disruption for matches. Watch the forecast for outdoor plans and tailgating.

Evening conditions

Evening matches benefit from AC regardless, but evenings outside are marginally more tolerable at 85–90°F after sunset. Restaurant patios with misters make outdoor dining comfortable. Dress light for any time spent outside the stadium. The heat island effect means Arlington stays warm late.

What to wear

Ultra-light, breathable clothing for outside. Shorts, sandals, and your team jersey are standard. Bring a light layer for the 72°F AC inside the stadium — the temperature contrast from 100°F outside can feel chilly. Comfortable shoes for the parking lot walk. Hat and sunscreen for any outdoor time.

Soccer in DFW

Dallas–Fort Worth Football Culture

A growing soccer market with deep Latin American roots and a passionate MLS club.

FC Dallas

Toyota Stadium in Frisco, about 35 minutes north of Arlington. One of the original MLS clubs founded in 1996. FC Dallas has been a consistent developer of US national team talent through its renowned youth academy. The Beer Garden supporters section creates an energetic atmosphere. Tickets $25–100.

The Latino market

DFW has one of the largest Hispanic populations in the US, making it a natural soccer hotbed. Liga MX matches at AT&T Stadium regularly sell out — Club America, Chivas, and Tigres UANL have massive followings. World Cup matches involving Mexico and South American nations will create an intense atmosphere.

1994 World Cup legacy

Dallas hosted World Cup matches at the Cotton Bowl in 1994. The tournament was a defining moment for soccer in Texas and helped establish FC Dallas. The 2026 World Cup brings it back in a venue exponentially larger and more advanced than the Cotton Bowl.

Youth soccer powerhouse

DFW is one of the most important youth soccer markets in the US. Solar SC, Texans SC, and FC Dallas Youth Academy produce players for MLS and the national team pipeline. Toyota Stadium hosts national youth tournaments. Fans will be knowledgeable and passionate.

Kids love the daily cattle drives. Cowtown Coliseum rodeos on weekends. Petting zoos and pony rides. Free to explore. Billy Bob's is family-friendly during the day with arcade games and mechanical bull rides for older kids.

Museums

Perot Museum of Nature and Science has hands-on exhibits for all ages. Fort Worth Museum of Science and History. Fort Worth Zoo is top 5 in the US. Dallas World Aquarium has a rainforest exhibit. All air-conditioned — essential in summer.

Theme parks

Six Flags Over Texas in Arlington is walking distance from AT&T Stadium — the original park since 1961. Hurricane Harbor water park is next door. LEGOLAND Discovery Center in Grapevine. Great Wolf Lodge indoor waterpark.

Water activities

Texas summers demand water. Hawaiian Falls waterparks. Lake Grapevine has swimming and boat rentals. NRH2O Water Park. Most hotels have pools. Klyde Warren Park splash pads in downtown Dallas are free.

Grapevine railroad

A vintage steam train runs between Grapevine and Fort Worth Stockyards on weekends. 21-mile journey takes 1.5 hours. Grapevine Main Street has ice cream and candy stores. Gaylord Texan Resort has year-round attractions.

Car seats for NYC

If also attending MetLife Stadium matches, we provide car seats for $25 per seat for all transfers. Rear-facing, forward-facing, and boosters available. Specify ages when booking. DFW rental companies offer seats for $10–15/day.

Transit

Public Transit Deep Dive

DFW has limited public transit and Arlington has none. Here is what exists.

DART Light Rail

Four light rail lines connecting downtown Dallas to Plano, Richardson, Irving, and DFW Airport. Orange Line connects DFW to downtown in 50 min for $3. Does NOT reach Arlington or AT&T Stadium — the critical limitation for World Cup visitors.

Event shuttles

For major AT&T Stadium events, shuttle services run from designated pickup points. FIFA and local organizers will set up World Cup shuttle routes. These sell out — book early. Routes from downtown Dallas, Fort Worth, and DFW Airport hotels. $10–20 round trip.

TEXRail

Connects downtown Fort Worth to DFW Airport Terminal B in 50 min for $2.50. Useful for Fort Worth stays with DFW flights. Does not reach Arlington. The Fort Worth T system has limited bus routes in the city.

Bikes & scooters

Dallas has growing bike-share and scooter systems downtown. Katy Trail is a popular paved trail. Not practical for AT&T Stadium — distances too large and heat makes cycling dangerous in summer. Good for Dallas neighborhood exploring.

History

Dallas–Fort Worth — Historical Context

Cattle trails to tech hub

Fort Worth grew as a cattle town on the Chisholm Trail in the 1870s while Dallas became a banking center. East Texas oil in the 1930s transformed both. WWII defense and aerospace brought booms. Today DFW is home to AT&T, American Airlines, ExxonMobil, and dozens of Fortune 500 companies.

JFK and Dealey Plaza

President Kennedy was assassinated in Dallas on November 22, 1963. The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza is one of the most visited sites in Texas. The city has spent decades moving beyond that moment while honoring its significance. Free to visit.

Cowboys and sports culture

The Dallas Cowboys — "America's Team" — are the most valuable sports franchise in the world. AT&T Stadium was built for them. DFW also has Mavericks, Stars, Rangers, FC Dallas, and Wings. One of the most sports-obsessed regions in America.

Growth and transformation

DFW is the fourth-largest metro and one of the fastest growing. Corporate relocations bring thousands annually. The Arlington entertainment district is undergoing billions in development. By 2026 new hotels and venues will be ready for World Cup visitors.

Accessibility

Accessibility Guide

Stadium accessibility

AT&T Stadium is fully ADA compliant with wheelchair seating on all levels. Multiple elevators and escalators. Accessible restrooms on every level. Companion seating. Service animals welcome. Sensory-friendly spaces. Assisted listening devices at Guest Services.

Accessible transport

ADA parking at stadium with advance reservation. DART trains and buses are wheelchair accessible. Uber/Lyft offer WAV options. Our NYC fleet includes ADA-accessible vehicles for the MetLife leg. Specify needs when booking.

Accessible hotels

All major chains are ADA compliant with roll-in showers, grab bars, visual alarms, and wider doorways. Request accessible rooms at booking — limited supply during events. Newer properties near the stadium have the best features.

City accessibility

DFW is car-centric which can challenge those without accessible vehicles. Downtown Dallas sidewalks are maintained. Fort Worth Stockyards have brick streets — uneven in spots. Most restaurants and attractions are accessible. Heat makes outdoor mobility challenging.

Local lingo

Texas Slang & Phrases

Y'all & Fixin' to

'Y'all' is the universal second-person plural. 'Fixin' to' means about to. 'All y'all' is the plural of y'all. Texans call everyone sir and ma'am — a sign of respect, not formality. Use these and you will blend right in.

Bless your heart

Can mean genuine sympathy or passive-aggressive shade depending on context. If someone says it after you do something foolish, it is definitely shade. A polite Texas insult wrapped in Southern charm. Learn to read the room.

BBQ terminology

Brisket is king. 'The flat' is leaner, 'the point' is fattier and more flavorful. 'Burnt ends' are caramelized point pieces. A 'three-meat plate' is standard. Never ask for sauce first — taste the meat plain. Sauce is optional.

Howdy & Texanisms

'Howdy' is a genuine greeting — use it back. 'Coke' refers to any soft drink in Texas. If someone offers sweet tea, say yes — it is a Texas institution. 'Cattywampus' means crooked. 'Tump over' means to knock something over.
