How much total time a JFK–LaGuardia connection really requires

Although JFK and LaGuardia are both in Queens—roughly 10 to 13 road miles apart along the Van Wyck Expressway (I-678) and Grand Central Parkway—the drive itself is only one piece of a split-airport connection. There is no direct rail link between the two airports.

1. Deplaning, customs & baggage at Airport 1

Because you are changing airports, checked bags must be claimed at your arrival airport. International arrivals at JFK also clear U.S. Customs and Border Protection before reaching the pickup point.

2. Terminal pickup & Van Wyck / GCP drive

At JFK Terminals 5 and 7, current Port Authority advisories route arriving car-service passengers via AirTrain to the Howard Beach lot. Van Wyck construction and Grand Central Parkway merges also affect road time.

3. Bag drop & TSA security at Airport 2

You must arrive at your departure terminal before your second airline's checked-baggage cutoff (commonly 45–60 minutes before domestic departure and 60+ minutes before international flights).

We do not promise that a tight inter-airport connection is safe. Share both your arriving flight number and your departing airline/flight time when requesting a quote so our team can confirm realistic pickup logistics.

Pickup procedures in either direction

  • Arriving at JFK, departing from LGA: your chauffeur tracks your inbound JFK flight, waits up to 60 minutes (domestic) or 90 minutes (international) from actual landing, meets you at your terminal's authorized collection point (or inside arrivals if you add meet & greet), and drops you directly at LaGuardia Terminal A, B or C departures.
  • Arriving at LGA, departing from JFK: your chauffeur tracks your inbound LaGuardia flight, collects you at Terminal A, B or C once your bags are in hand, and drops you directly at the departures curb of your JFK terminal (Terminals 1, 4, 5, 7 or 8—note that departures drop-offs at T5/T7 remain at the terminal curb).

JFK to LaGuardia transfer questions

What if my inbound flight is delayed and I miss my connecting flight at the other airport?

We monitor your inbound flight and adjust your chauffeur's arrival time automatically, but Chauffeur Service NYC is not responsible for missed flights or airline rebooking. If an inbound cancellation or severe delay changes your airport transfer plan, call dispatch at 347-321-9929 as soon as possible.

Do JFK Terminal 5 and Terminal 7 remote pickup rules apply on a JFK-to-LGA transfer?

Yes, if you are landing at JFK Terminal 5 or 7. Under the current JFK advisory, arriving car-service passengers at T5/T7 take the AirTrain to the Howard Beach pickup lot. If you are flying out of JFK T5/T7 from LGA, your chauffeur drops you directly at the terminal departures curb.

Which vehicle should I book if we have international checked bags?

International travelers often carry larger 50–70 lb suitcases plus carry-ons. For 2–3 passengers with multiple large checked bags, an Executive SUV or Luxury SUV provides much more cargo margin than a sedan.
